How it works

A field guide in your pocket.

Critterboard uses a small AI model that runs on your phone. Photos are never uploaded anywhere, so it works just as well deep in the woods as it does at home.

Each region gets its own model, trained only on the species you're likely to find there. That keeps it small and accurate.

Download once, before you go 145 MB

Download the Central Europe pack once, ideally at home on Wi-Fi: 88 MB for the species-recognition model and 56 MB for the offline map of Europe. After that, Critterboard works without a connection: in the woods, in a meadow, or anywhere with no signal.

Switch on the network and you can join the global and weekly rankings, follow friends and see what they find. There's still no account, and you can hide yourself or delete everything you've put online whenever you like. Play fully offline and nothing ever leaves your phone.
